RULES AND REMINDERS
USGA Rules of Golf will govern play of this Association. The rules are necessarily lengthy and detailed because golf creates such a variety of situations. Everyone should read the USGA Rules AND this book to familiarize herself with the proper procedures. A very important part of golf etiquette is to play as quickly as possible, avoiding unnecessary delays. KEEP PACE! The Golden Rule is applicable on the golf course as well as off.
Timesaver tips:
Play ready golf
Observe continuous putting
Place golf equipment to exit greens at the back
1. TEE-OFF TIME: 7:30am – 10:00 am. on Thursdays. Sign-ups for the following week will not be taken before 7am. Each member is allowed to sign up for herself and one (1) other person. However you can not sign someone else up in the 1st 5 tee times. The starting sheet will remain at the course at least until all players have made the turn. Starting time sign-up sheets will be posted each week. Players not signed up in person must call the Tee Time Coordinator (TTC) for a starting time, and are to call the TTC to cancel or request a change throughout the year. For cancellations Wednesday night or Thursday morning, call the Pro Shop. Please do not ‘move up’ at the 1st tee unless directed by the Starter. Try to play with different people each week.
2. INCLEMENT WEATHER: Events Co-Chairmen will rule regarding play. If event is cancelled tee times will remain the same the following Thursday, unless there is a special event with its own tee times.
3. THE MEMBERSHIP will be divided into four classes, dependent on number of members. Classifications will be adjusted according to handicaps in mid-season.
4 RECORD SCORE with putts during the entire season. Two players per card are preferable when scoring. Upon completion of play, record scores on the weekly event sheets. After score cards have been signed, dated and attested, deposit them on the scoring table.
5 FAIR HANDICAPPING depends upon full and accurate information. The scores reflect a player’s ability. Every golfer interested in fair play should be sure all of her scores are recorded. Post scores from all courses played, remembering the course and slope ratings. The Board will enforce adjusted scores. Only adjusted scores are entered in the computer. Refer to the bulletin board for complete details on adjusting scores.
6 SUMMER RULES are in effect. When adverse conditions are general throughout the course, the Events Co Chairmen will post a notice advising that a ball, through the green, may be lifted, cleaned and placed without penalty, within one club-length of where it lay, but not nearer the hole. If a ball comes to rest in an aeration hole, the player may, without penalty, lift, clean and place the ball as near as possible to where it lay, but not nearer the hole; and when plugs remain on the ground, lift, clean and place will also be in effect.
7. NATURAL AREAS are a regular part of the golf course unless marked with red or yellow stakes. If your ball enters an unmarked natural area, you may play the ball as it lies or you may declare the ball unplayable and proceed under USGA Rule 28.
If you cannot find your ball in the natural area, you must proceed under USGA Rule 27 (lost ball). Any areas marked with red or yellow stakes are to be played under the proper USGA rule (water hazard or lateral water hazard).
The area to the right of holes # 10, 13, 17 and 18 defined by white stakes with green tops is ground under repair from which play is prohibited. If a player’s ball lies in the area, or if it interferes with the player’s stance or the area of her intended swing, the player must take relief under USGA Rule 25-1.
Please do not drive golf carts or take pull carts into the natural area.
8. New Water Hazard Rule ( Holes 1,3,11,12,16,17): If 2 balls enter the water hazard, the player may carry the ball across the hazard. The player will then drop the ball within 2 club lengths of the margin of the hazard. Score the hole as normal and add a 2 stroke penalty for the carryover.
9. Provisional Ball: A provisional ball may be played over the water hazard, if you are uncertain the original ball did not cross the water hazard.
10. 3RD HOLE: All golfers will use the upper tee. If the first ball is unplayable in the hazard, the second ball may be played from the lower tee. The ball must not be teed up. Drop ball from shoulder high per rules.
11. 17TH HOLE: If relief is taken from the railroad tie at the green side bunker (unplayable lie), drop it in the bunker and incur a one-stroke penalty.
12. PUTTING OUT on all greens is required. Any stroke on the putting surface is a putt. If your ball rolls off the putting surface the next stroke is not a putt
Exception:If the player is not on the green within 10 strokes, the ball must be picked up. Record a score of 12 including 3 putts.
13. PRIZES will accumulate and be awarded at the closing dinner. Names of winners will be posted weekly. Two prizes will be given in each class, each week. If there are six or fewer players participating (per class) only one prize will be awarded for that class.
Eligibility for Prizes:
• Dues must be paid.
• A player may win no more than two weekly events a month, but members are eligible for prizes on Guest Day and for special events, regardless of previous weekly awards.
RESERVATIONS: Members are held responsible for reservations unless cancelled by Tuesday noon preceding Thursday luncheons or dinners, or as determined by the event venue.
SPECIAL EVENTS AND TOURNAMENTS
BBWGA CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP: 36-hole medal play on a Thursday/Friday. Five current year Thursday scores are required. Anyone with fewer than five scores may appeal to the Board for arbitration and permission to compete.
WOMEN’S WESTERN GOLF ASSOCIATION: There will be six 18-hole rounds designated during the season. A pin, given by the WWGA, is awarded temporarily to the player with the low net score on each of those days. At the end of the season, the pin is awarded permanently to the golfer who has the lowest four net scores out of the six rounds.
On one of the designated WWGA days, there is a scholarship day sponsored by the Women’s Western Golf Foundation (an IRS-recognized tax-exempt charitable Trust). The entry fee is a minimum donation of $10.00 per person. Using the scores of the four low net players, a BBWGA team is entered in this nationwide competition. The money given provides college scholarships to women of high academic achievement and supports golf programs for women. A sign-up sheet will be available.
INTRA-CLUB TEAM MATCHES will be played as the event of the day on three Thursdays. Assigned team members will compete individually with opposing team members for team points. Sign-up for this competition is completed at registration.
MOST IMPROVED GOLFER and LOW NET FOR THE YEAR: Cash awards will be given based on 18-hole play during the entire season, determined by CDGA.
RINGERS: A chart will be kept indicating each golfer’s lowest score for each hole throughout the season. Prizes will be awarded, in each class, to the players with the lowest 18-hole total scores.
PUTTING awards are given to players in each class for low putts by adding their five lowest total putt rounds during league play. Please record all putts on scorecards.
Thursday scores and Club Championship scores will be considered for PUTTING and RINGERS. Member’s class as of the first Thursday in September will be used for Putting and Ringer class awards.
Should a weekly event be called due to inclement weather, the Events Co-chairmen will determine if ringers and putts will be included in the yearly tally.
